Community Table of Albion

Who We Are

The Community Table of Albion works collaboratively with many community organizations to offer Albion, fresh food items, where they live, that are easily accessible. Our mission is to have a healthy and hunger-free community. We strive to treat everyone with respect and together we can do more than just provide fresh food, we can provide hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Our History

The need for food support in Albion has greatly increased through the pandemic.  The Community Table of Albion works with volunteers to distribute food three times a month from a packing dock on the west side of Albion College’s Wesley Hall.

A special entryway was added in 2021 so that recipients can line up in a beautiful space behind Wesley Hall to wait for their box of food. The food is distributed based on the number of people in a household. For this program, drivers can also pick up a box of food for another household, or recipients can carpool.

Food Distribution Program

The address of Wesley Hall is 705 E. Michigan Ave., Albion, and the driveway to enter is located on Bidwell Street. The time for distribution is usually the second, third, and fourth Tuesdays of each month, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

We are thankful for the assistance of all those who make the Community Table of Albion possible.  These include the Albion-Homer United Way, Albion Community Foundation, Albion First United Methodist Church, Oaklawn Hospital, Albion College, South Michigan Food Bank, Family Fare Albion, and Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Albion Elks Lodge #1798 surprises the Community Table of Albion with a generous food grant

The Community Table of Albion was surprised and is pleased to announce receiving a substantial grant from the Albion Elks Lodge #1798 and the Elks National Foundation Community Investment Program. This is the first time Lodge 1798 has applied for the Spotlight grant, which was recently allowed to be made available for local purchasing food and supplies and delivering items to a shelter or food pantry.
This impacts the Albion community specifically. The grant will be applied in part, directly to the South Michigan Food Bank for purchasing food.

The Community Table of Albion has been notified that all food banks across the nation, including the South Michigan Food Bank, are facing unprecedented supply chain interruptions, with little or no relief in sight for 6-18 months. To better match their outbound food flow with inbound food flow, all distribution sites that receive more than 100 boxes will receive a reduced number of boxes. Sites receiving 150-300 boxes (The CTA currently receives 250 boxes) will be receiving 150 boxes. There is also a steep decline in inbound food from the USDA (eggs, cheese, milk, fruits, fish, nuts, poultry, and vegetables). Please be aware that the Community Table coordinator and pantry proprietor are doing what they can to supplement distributions.
Because of the above shortages, we are asking you to contact the South Michigan Food Bank (269-964-3663) to find another food distribution that may be closer to you. Also, please be aware that if you pick up for other families, the number of boxes that will be available for you to pick up will also be limited, and that all families, regardless of size might only be able to get one box. All will get less so that all will get something.
The Community Table Pantry is open on Fridays from 1-3 for emergency needs. The emergency number is 517-629-0842.

Are you still doing Tuesday?

When are the distribution dates?

Do you need volunteers?
